HMRC online communication – what’s genuine and what’s not?
We’ve seen a sharp increase recently in the number of phishing/bogus emails being sent to clients that look as if they have been sent from HM Revenue & Customs. HMRC have provided guidance on their website around the issue and also highlight a list of genuine emails that they would send.
It is worth remembering that HMRC will never send notifications of a tax rebate by email, or ask you to disclose personal or payment information by email.
