Women in Business

Ross Wilson recently agreed to become an Ambassador for Women In Business as part of a key Barclays initiative here in the South of England. He was involved in the inaugural Women in Business Awards held at Oakley Hall sponsored by Barclays in conjunction with the Thames Valley Business Magazine when an outstanding array of successful and talented business women were present – 150 nominations made the judging a real challenge. Ross said “Ever since I started writing a regular column in the regional press specifically about women in business I became fascinated about why twice as many businesses were started by men than women and what specific challenges women faced in business beyond those of their male counterparts – and of course we have long talked about the glass ceiling. This led to our firm taking on many more women business clients and naturally I wanted to explore any specific barriers to success for women from raising finance to securing great advice to more besides.”

He further commented “I am delighted to be part of such an important initiative and recently had a really insightful and inspiring day with over 40 women in senior positions from the Barclays Corporate Banking team here in the South. The discussions were wide ranging with my input very much geared to sharing my experience of women in business. My objective with the Group, like everything I do, is very much about making a real difference and if I can contribute in some positive and constructive way to the thoughts of such a talented team then I will be achieving what I set out to do.”

Jagdeep Rai, Corporate Director for Heathrow, Slough and Surrey Corporate Banking who is leading the Women In Business initiative for Barclays commented “We are delighted to have secured people like Ross in support of the initiative and can see how his input as with others will contribute to our even greater understanding of this key subject and help us in our journey to help promote the cause of women in our business community.”
