What should you be doing NOW to maximise performance in 2013

Ross Wilson recently sat on the panel of The Forum, an event aimed at leading businesses in the Thames Valley, and outlined a number of things that businesses should be doing now to maximise their performance in 2013.  Here we share some of the thoughts:

1. Spend enough time on the strategy

2. Update the detailed business plan covering corporate goals, marketing, sales, IT and the financial model

3. Challenge every aspect of the financial model

4. Ensure the plan is drawn up in conjunction with the whole Board and not just the thoughts of one person – get the team onboard

5. Consider collaborations and strategic alliances with suppliers and customers

6. Assess the risk profile of the business across a number of areas and have a plan in place to manage the risk

7. Ensure up to date financial information is available

8. Employ only the best – don’t compromise on your people!

9. Review your customer base and satisfy yourself as to the financial viability of your clients and customers

10. Try and work with customers that are going places – their growth will help drive your growth
